To start off your journey in footwear it's important to know the key components that go into making a pair of shoes. Even if you don't plan to make shoes of your own and are more interested in starting a shoe brand - its crucial that you know what these components are, so that you can efficiently liaise with your team or factory.

Every shoe is different. That's why we want (need) so many pairs, right? Right. Even 2 shoes that look exactly the same can be made using different methods and maybe even different components inside. There does tend to be a standard of components used with each style though, and in the images below we have outlined the most crucial parts of each style.

*It's good to note that the 'last' does not make up the final shoe but is a very important part of the making process.
