This 5 day custom boot making course offers students the exciting opportunity to make a pair of boots of their own design from scratch.
During this course we will create a mockup to ensure the perfect shape and fit. These will be boots you’ll be wearing for years to come.

  • Breakdown of footwear components
  • Leather selection
  • Custom fitting to ensure the perfect fit
  • Last adjustments
  • Taping up a last
  • 3D design directly onto the last
  • Pattern cutting
Day Two:
  • Mock up preparation and fitting
  • Pattern adjustments as needed
  • Upper preparation: cutting pieces for uppers and linings
  • Skiving edges
  • Inserting top line tape
  • Folding top lines and piecing together uppers
Day Three:
  • Stitching the uppers (Also known in the footwear industry as "Closing")
  • Cutting and covering insoles
  • Lasting lining
Day Four:
  • Inserting stiffeners
  • Lasting uppers
  • Cork filler
Day Five:
  • Cutting soles/heel tips
  • Sanding and shaping soles/heel tips
  • Edge dyeing soles/heel tips
  • Attaching a stitched randing around the feather edge of the shoes
  • Attaching soles
  • Attaching heels
All of the materials are included in the price, however if you have something special you would like to use feel free to bring it along with you. We use the highest quality leather, with a range of colours to choose from. We also have vegan alternatives including Piñatex available. Our studio is located a short walk from Bethnal Green underground station in East London. The Pill Box Studios is a hub for all things creative, including shoe making! The closest hotels in the area are Travelodge (1 min walk away, cheap and cheerful) and The East London Hotel (5 min walk away, a more boutique stay). There are cafe options for lunch nearby including Carmel by the Green, Second Shot Coffee, Starbucks and Sainsbury's as well as The Pill Box cafe.
