Those of you who have been around for a little while might remember these floral wedges I made last year 🌸⬇️
My floral wedges project:
I ended up not really wearing them as much as I thought I would. I don't have a lot in my wardrobe that matches with painted floral wedge. SO instead of them going to waste, I decided to do a little upcycle project and transform them into something I will wear instead!
You can watch my upcycling process in this video below:
Let's break down the process:
Step 1: First I needed to pull the insoles up from the platform unit and remove the upper. I did this by blasting it with my heat gun and then gradually pulling the insole away from the platform. I then gently pulled the upper off of the insole.
Step 2: I then traced out a new upper using the slider sandal pattern.
Step 3: I then cut out my new upper. I decided I wanted to line this upper in the same colour leather too.
Step 4: So once I'd cut out my uppers, I glued up some of the same leather and stuck those uppers down. I used a water based glue to do this.
Step 5: I then cut around my lined uppers.
Step 6: I then stitched my uppers and linings together with a white thread.
Step 7: Then I needed to skive the base of the insole with a safety beveler to create a nice flat surface and then glue this up with solvent based glue. I also glued the platform unit with solvent based glue.
Step 8: Once the glue had a decent dry time, I pressed down my insoles onto the platform unit. And they're done!
And here are the finished shoes:
