Katie from the team decided to do a little recycle project and transform this old leather skirt into some new platform sandals with a mule style upper 🤩
She found these old platforms on Vinted for £1 (!!!) and decided to rip them up and make them into a brand new pair of sandals using leather from an old leather skirt.
Watch the full making process in the video below:
Let's break it down step-by-step:
1. Find some old sandals to take apart. Katie didn't have any in her collection to take apart so she sourced some on Vinted for £1!
2. Rip up the insole from the platform sole. You can use a heat gun to loosen it up a little but you may not need to 😉
3. Create your uppers. Katie created her own pattern but you can download our slider shoemaking pattern to get the same look. Katie decided to line her uppers with the same leather so she cut out 4 of this pattern.
4. Glue and stitch your uppers together along the toplines.
5. Create your insoles but tracing your insole pattern out on texon board and foam sheets. This creates a comfy padded insole for your shoe.
6. Cover your padded insole with your leather. Remember to put your pleats in your leather on the base of the insole so that you can create a nice smooth finish on the top and sides of your insoles.
7. Glue up your components with solvent based glue, ready to stick everything together. Start by sticking the upper to the insole and skiving away the excess from the base.
8. Stick the insole to the platform unit and press down to secure everything. And they're done!
