Ok these collabs just keep getting better and better! Here's our latest ‘Get Inspired’ collaboration with ceramic artist @ivyivyivyivy 🌟
'Get Inspired' is a series of shoe design collaborations with the intention to inspire our community to unlock different creative practices and apply them to shoes. All the shoes made in this series (or variations of them) can be made by following the instructions in our Online Footwear Masterclass.
@ivyivyivyivy is a ceramic artist who took inspiration from her mosaic collection, to create these one of a kind heels for this pair of shoes. Her whole mosaic collection is created using saved cracked and broken pieces from each of her collections over the years.
Each unique piece is made from dozens of broken pieces, all glued and grouted onto her ceramic work. For this project, she used a flexible poly filler in place of a normal grout so that the pieces wouldn't crack off when the shoes are worn.
We used beautiful brown and cream leathers to create the two-tone mule uppers and I am SO happy with how they turned out. This is such a great example of thinking outside the box when it comes to your shoe designs, these heels were created on top of our standard block heel, available to buy in our supply shop :)

Here’s a little run through of how we made the shoes...
Step 1 - We sent our classic block high heels to Ivy to work her mosaic magic on them.
Step 2 - I created a pattern for the mule design on the I Can Make Shoes High Heel Shoemaking Last.
Step 3 - Next, I cut, assembled and stitched the uppers, I love this two-tone look for this mule shape.
Step 4 - I then cut the Shanked Insoles to size and covered them with the same cream leather I used for the lining.
Step 5 - I added a cork bottom filler to the base of the shoes to create a nice flat surface for my next step which was to add on the soles. We always use our new Resin Soling in beige for all of our projects now because it is so easy to use and super durable too.
Step 6 - Once the soles were attached I drilled in Ivy’s mosaic heels and added a small insole sock to cover the screws that I used to attach the heels.
