I Can Make Shoes is a unique shoemaking school which has been paving the way with teaching innovative shoemaking techniques for over a decade.
The original I Can Make Shoes'er - Amanda founded the company back in 2010. As a native Aussie, Amanda did her footwear training in Sydney, Australia. It was when she moved to London that she realised it was really difficult to make shoes without all the machinery she was taught to use. She set out to develop a shoemaking process that makes the craft accessible for people to do from home and she’s been spreading the love of shoemaking ever since.
With a background in architecture but a love for shoes Kiren came along to one of our shoemaking classes and the rest was history. She completed an internship with I Can Make Shoes before progressing to our head teacher role in under 3 years. Kiren now lives in New York and heads up our shoemaking classes at the Brooklyn Shoe Space.
Tessa graduated with a BA in Footwear Design and Development at Cordwainers, London College of Fashion. Focusing on sustainability for her graduate collection, she developed a range of footwear designed to never make it into landfill. She then went on to work as a cobbler for Christian Louboutin. After some time Tessa wanted to share her experiences and becoming a teacher felt like the natural next step.
Originally from Paris, P moved to London when she buckled down a shoe design internship at McQ by Alexander McQueen after completing her BA. This mind-blowing experience hugely convinced her to pursue a career in footwear design. Later, she enrolled onto a masters in Fashion Footwear course at London College of Fashion - Cordwainers. She created her first collection with a great interest in sculptural forms and textured surfaces - which characterise her work. After being part of the Burberry shoe design team, she joined I Can Make Shoes to continue exploring her making skills and share her craft.
Carlotta has been working with us part-time for over 4 years and is a shoemaking superstar. She loves making just about anything and is often found whipping up a handbag out of scrap pieces of leather and beads off an old jacket. She started as an intern and like Kiren and Miette learned everything she knows about footwear right here at I Can Make Shoes. She studies BA fashion design at Instituto Marangoni and works part time at Jimmy Choo.
Another Aussie in our team is the lovely Miette from Adelaide, Australia. Miette moved to London to study Fashion Textiles at London College of Fashion. She discovered her love for shoemaking when she joined one of our short courses and never looked back. Miette trained in footwear right here at I Can Make Shoes and has experienced first hand how easy learning shoemaking can be.
