We ship all our items from the United Kingdom. Due to Brexit, you may have to pay additional duties or taxes upon delivery.

This applies to all international orders, including those being delivered to the European Union.

Whilst we know extra customs charges totally suck, it's not us who makes the rules or sets the price. So we recommend that you check with your local government agency for more information.

Each pattern is a PDF digital file that you can download instantly and print from home. This loafer pattern is designed to be used alongside the I Can Make Shoes  women's flat lasts (reference 001).

Loafers and penny loafers, have gotta be up there with one of the most classic shoe styles around! Unisex and versatile, this shoe is the ideal trans-seasonal style for year-round wear. 🌟 Well.... we've made a slider version of it!

The penny loafer strap is completely optional, so if you prefer a Belgian-style loafer slider feel free to leave it out. :)

MORE ABOUT THIS PATTERN...

Unlike most of our other patterns, this pattern is not the same for the upper and lining, so carefully read our closing sequence below. :)

If you have altered your last for a square/pointed toe or adjusted the width, we recommend adding on some extra lasting allowance to the pattern, to accommodate this build-up.

CLOSING SEQUENCE...

1. Trace and cut out the linings and uppers in your chosen materials. *Remember to flip the pattern pieces to get left and right feet.*

2. Optional: Trace and cut out the penny loafer detailing of the strap, using a craft knife or scalpel. *If you would like this strap to be a raw edge, trim away the 5mm folding allowance from the pattern before tracing.*

3. Glue and fold over the 5mm allowance on your apron piece.

4. Apply a bit of water-based glue along the wrong side of your apron's folded edge, as well as along the 10mm overlay of your upper vamp piece. Stick the apron to the underlay, making sure it's nicely centred.

5. Stitch the apron piece to the upper only where there is the underlay. Bring in your threads to the underside and double knot. *We recommend lightly marking your apron piece with an awl, so you know where to stitch.*

6. Apply a little glue along the wrong sides of your upper and lining toplines. Match together the uppers with the linings and stick the toplines together. *The 5mm trimming allowance on your linings will sit 5mm above the topline of your uppers.*

7. Stitch your toplines together, stitching in one continuous stitch along the top of the tongue.

9. Trim away your lining's trimming allowance, leaving a bit at the tongue to make the lasting process easier.

10. Optional: If you are making a penny loafer and would like your penny loafer strap to have a folded edge, glue and fold the 5mm allowance and stitch along the edges. If your strap has a raw edge, you can move onto step 11.

11. With a bit of glue, stick down both ends of your penny loafer strap to the upper vamp piece. Your pattern indicates where to place your strap. *It may be useful to lightly mark these references on your upper with an awl.*

12. Peel your lining away from your upper, and stitch your penny loafer strap in place with a box stitch. *Make sure you don't stitch through your lining.*

You're now ready to last your uppers!
